Date of Birth: September 24, 1933
Date of Death: January 18, 2021
Did you notice? The sun shone a bit dimmer in January. We had to say goodbye to 2 very special and very loved friends: Alton M Actkinson (87) and the love of his life, his ‘Betsy’, Betty J Schlueter Actkinson (92) passed away in Surprise, AZ on January 18 and 22, respectively. Never far from each other’s side for 67 years, time could not separate them for long. Alton was born in Brownfield, TX on September 24, 1933 to L. R. and Sallye Actkinson. He grew up working on the family farm and becoming a star football player in high school. Betty was born in Milwaukee, WI on July 1, 1928 to John and Louise Schlueter. She was a bright child and a very loving and devoted daughter. Alton proudly served in the United States Army. He trained and worked in the field of Electronics. He was loyal Packer fan, not missing a game if he had his say. Betty excelled in her work as a bookkeeper for WI energy company, all while tending to her parents and Al. They were both very involved in their American Legion Post, Al serving as a past president and Betty as a head of the auxiliary. The two were married in June of 1954, celebrating 66 yrs this past June. Because of their warm and fun loving hearts, they enjoyed get togethers with friends every weekend, sharing stories and laughter and and plenty of delicious pot lucks. Their best friends Joe and Jan Moertle of WI. spent many years with Al and Betty, partying and enjoying each others’ company. The stories they could tell would fill two volumes, and are memories the Moertles hold very dear. Alton and Betty became snowbirds in retirement, escaping the snow of WIsconsin for sunny Florida and Arizona, eventually settling in AZ. They lived in Glendale, Peoria and were living in Surprise their last few years. Alton and Betty showered kindness, laughter and warmth on everyone they met. If you were lucky enough to spend any time with them, your life is richer. And you are probably now a Green Bay Packer fan! Side by side in life, they passed together, exactly as they wished. The will be laid to rest at Resthaven Cemetery in Glendale, AZ. No services are planned. Their legacy of love and loyalty, kindness and humor will continue in all of us lucky enough to have known them.

Sending my condolences to the family and friends of Betty and Alton.
Im so sorry to find out my sudo Aunt and Uncle passed away. Ever since they left Wisconsin it has only been long distance communication, but in the most enjoyable way. I will miss them greatly. My thoughts join their friends and family.
My Uncle and Aunt, we could not come for our annual visit this year. And we were going to stop in around January 14, but got delayed. They are with us in our hearts, we love them very much. They are with my Mom and Dad, Alton’s brother. Love to our family.
Aunt Betty and Uncle Alton were a beautiful couple. Full of love and life. Their personalities made everyone smile and enjoyed being around them. Although we didn’t get to visit as much as we wish we could have, their yearly Christmas newsletter kept us updated of their lives. We will miss them so much. But they will be in our hearts forever.
