Date of Death: February 24, 2023

Byron J Emehiser, March 29, 1949 - February 24, 2023 In loving memory of Byron Emehiser, the son of Byron G. and Georgia Emehiser. Byron (aka Barney or JoJo) spent his childhood in Salida where he graduated high school in 1967 before leaving for college in Boulder. He left CU after a short time and married Carla Lepper and started a family with 2 incredible sons. Barney started his career at Mountain Bell (Qwest) where he eventually retired after 32 yrs of service. His roles with the phone company evolved from telecommunications to Engineering, and from cable splicing to Management. Opportunity with the company included a relocation to Arizona for him and his family in 1983. Barney went on to marry his longtime companion, Cathie (Stine) in 2003 enjoying a 17 year marriage together. They enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, camping trips in the AZ and CO mountains, ATV rides, their love of animals, and anything that involved family. Barney enjoyed life, dedicating time to his love of football (Broncos), baseball (Yankees), and golfing with his sons. He enjoyed cars and motorcycles, which he rode for many years. Sarcasm and teasing were Barney’s love language and nobody was immune from the heckling. Barney was everyone’s friend, be it neighborhood kid, stray animal or complete stranger. His heart was that of acceptance and love. Barney is survived by his wife Cathie, his son Chad (Cari) Emehiser, granddaughter Lauren (David) DiMaio, grandson Austin Emehiser; son Troy (Theresa) Emehiser, step-son Brandon (Rachel) Stine, grandchildren Corey and Cameron Stine, Kaylee Flores, Anthony Munoz; sister Susan (Ron) Beauregard, nieces Jennifer Beauregard (Brandon) and daughter Taylor and son Ryley; and Aimee (Aaron) Zak and daughter Skyla. Many were with him when he passed suddenly and he will forever be dearly missed.
