Carol Jeanette Hummel 85, of Peoria Arizona, passed away peacefully at Freedom Plaza Assisted Living, Peoria Arizona. A celebration of her life will be scheduled in the spring. Carol was born May 8, 1936 in Alma Michigan. Daughter of Clarence and Leona Blanck. Raised in Alma, Carol graduated as Valedictorian from Alma College with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 1958. Art was always an important part of her life. She taught elementary school art classes. Later in her life she painted needlepoint canvases. She combined these hand painted canvases with the correctly colored yarn and sold these for many years. By this time Carol and husband Fred Wyngarden had settled in the Kansas City area, where they raised there family. In 1970, Carol started riding a bicycle for exercise. She loved the freedom that cycling offered. Soon she learned all the back streets of Kansas City. Eventually Carol started sharing these routes with other cyclists. Through the years of cycling she served as president of the KC bike club and founded WOW, Women on Wheels. Her passion for cycling took her all over the United States and Europe. Through her love for cycling she met so many people and saw so much of this beautiful planet! Carol is survived by her loving husband Donald Austin Hummel, they were blessed to share a life of 35 years together, daughters Cheryl Wyngarden-Lorenz, Debbie (Steve) Gilbert, son Jim(Karen) Wyngarden, Sister Katherine Kosar-Dunn, step daughter Lori Suhr, step son David Hummel, 11 grand children, 12 great grand children and a loving extended family. Carol you are so missed in our hearts, keep on riding!
