Charles “Chuck” Raymond O’Connor, 76, of Phoenix, passed away on October 27, 2013 after a 14 year battle with cancer. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 10, 1937 to the late James Joseph O’Connor and Margaret Hyland O’Connor.  Over four decades, Chuck taught physical education and science in elementary and high school, served in administration both as athletic director and dean of students, and coached football, wrestling and swimming, along with his first love, baseball.  His baseball coaching career took him from a state championship at the high school level and an additional state championship in American Legion baseball.  He completed his coaching career in junior college.  In 1999, he was named Athletic Director of the Year.  An additional highlight in Chuck’s career was being inducted into the Arizona Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame.  He taught swimming each summer and it is estimated he taught 1,300 children to swim. His hobbies included gardening, telling jokes, writing, and swimming. But his favorite was golf. Chuck is survived by his loving spouse of 20 years, Linda; his 5 children, Tim (Teresa) O’Connor, Dan (Karen) O’Connor, Susan (Robert) Ramirez, Sean (Jennifer) O’Connor, Shannon (Shawn) Dukes, and their mother Priscilla Peters; 19 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; and 2 step-children, Amy (Scott) Wood, Brad (Stephanie) Waldrop.
