Debra “Debbie” Jane Cunningham passed away peacefully at age 69 on April 1, 2021, due to complications with COVID-19, surrounded by her family. She was born January 7, 1952 in Pasadena, California to Janet and Donald Duncan. Debbie grew up in California. She graduated from Corona Del Mar High School and married the love of her life Robert Cunningham in Newport Beach. For the last 37 years she lived in Tempe, Arizona where she raised her two children. Debbie taught equestrianism at her horse facility in Sunburst Farms, part time, as her kids got older. Many of her students continue to ride to this day. She had a special love for her horses (Sheba, Reno, Simon, Rojo, T, Showdee, Duke, Reggie, and Flip). Debbie also had a love for her cats, dogs, chickens, bunnies, peacocks, ducks, cockatiels and doves. Six years ago she suffered a debilitating back injury that slowed her down physically but her passion for what she loved remained strong. She was an animal advocate, something she had always been passionate about. During this time she became involved in saving the wild horses that roam the west through numerous not for profit organizations. She was also involved with many local small animal rescue organizations. Debbie was preceded in death by her parents, Janet and Donald. She is survived by her two sisters, Donna and Christie; by her husband, Robert; by her children, Kelli and Chris; by her grandchildren, Braxton and Braydon; by her dog, Sophie; by her cats, Remington and Onix; by her horses, Reggie and Flip.
