Date of Birth: August 27, 1937
Date of Death: October 16, 2020
Donald Eugene Peters passed away on October 16, 2020 at the age 83 years old in Sun City, Arizona. He battled many medical conditions and continued to show his strength without complaining, while his internal painful struggles were lingering. Don was born in Dixon, Illinois to Emma Frye (deceased). Don is survived by his loving and vivacious wife Karyn (Tesmer, Gorny) of 48 years. Their blended family consisted of seven children: Mark, Charmaine (Gorny, Pisula, married to Dave Thomas), Paul, Matthew (married to Mary), Julie (preceded him in death), Eric, and Christopher. Don was a proud Papa to 17 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Don graduated from Niles Township High School in Skokie, Illinois where he enjoyed singing in a ‘barbershop quartet’ and running in Track/Cross Country. He was quite the track star. He also served as an Engineer in the U.S. Army. He worked for 42 years at ITT Bell and Gossett in Morton Grove, Illinois and held other part-time positions for over 20 years to support his growing family. Don enjoyed a good ‘Black Russian’ when he came home from work each night and he was in his element when he watched the Chicago Cubs win the World Series in 2016! Don showed his artistic ability with all of his coloring skills with crayons, markers and pencils. Don was also a champion at Canasta and enjoyed jigsaw puzzles. Don’s family and friends knew him as a soft spoken, very kind hearted, mild mannered man and truly ‘one of the last good guys’!
In lieu of flowers, a future memorial will be planned in Chicago, Illinois, post Covid-19. In the meantime, hold onto your memories of Don and bring them with you when we celebrate his wonderful life!
