Date of Birth: November 05, 1935
Date of Death: December 26, 2021
A light went out in Peoria, Arizona with the passing of Doris Jean Spargo, 86, on December 26, 2021. Doris left this world unexpectedly and peacefully from home, in the comfort of her favorite chair. She was the second of four children born to Gwinn and Viola Dunham in Bellingham, Washington on November 5, 1935. Doris grew up in Lynden, Washington, and graduated from Lynden High School in 1953. Doris married Martin Spargo, her husband of 65 years, on November 10, 1956. Together they were blessed with three sons, Martin Gwinn, Frederick Gene, and David Wayne. For the first 22 years of marriage, Doris was a United States Air Force wife, and traveled widely with her husband and sons. They lived in California, Germany, Washington, Montana, and North Dakota. This life led to an enjoyment of travel, and she and Martin often took extended road trips to visit National Parks and family members. She enjoyed doing airport security in Grand Forks and Bismarck, North Dakota, prior to retiring to Arizona near her son, Fred. Doris had a big heart, and through the years cared for six foster-daughters. She and Martin were longtime volunteers with hospice. Doris is survived by her loving husband, Martin, and three sons, Martin (Amy), Fred (Elizabeth), and David (Diane); her grandchildren Russell (Crystal), Garret (Mystie), Dylan (Jenna), Hope, Jana (Alex), Brooke, and Sarah; numerous great-grandchildren; brothers Gwinn Dunham (Joy) and Chuck Dunham (Irene), sister-in-law Barbara Dunham, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Doris was preceded in death by her brother John Dunham.

A beautiful friend, neighbor, soul, spirit has gone home to Jesus. I will miss her so much. She truly was an angel here on earth and now in Heaven she can spread her wings.
My mom, she was my mom for 62 plus years, she was also my best friend and confident, mom had a great sense of humor, and kept her family together!
I knew this day would come, and I feared that day, mom passed away December 26th, the day after Christmas, worst day of my life, a song that I heard today!
Irish song …. “My Mother”
The love that lives within our mother’s heart
That’s why I call her everyday if I’m near or far away
For I know some day she and I must part.
So always hold her dear as you count each passing year
Say your sorry if you caused her pain and strife
And when it’s your birthday just call her up and say
Thank you mom for giving me the gift of life….
When this world it seems unfair she’s the one who’s always there… this was my moms and my special bond! Love you and miss you!
Very sorry for the passing of your mom. Please give your dad a hug and know Dale and I are sending prayers for all the wonderful memories to help you during this time. Love to you our friend.
Heaven is rejoicing!
Sorry I was late Aunt Doris.
Life will not be the same without your presence.
Say hello to my mama
My mom: what a wonderful loving woman, she loved God and Country.
Mom had a great sense of humor, was my best friend, I’ll miss you, and look forward to the day we can meet in heaven!
Love you with all my heart!

She and I talked a lot on those Wednesday chiropractor visits. She had some great stories of her life as an Air Force wife and traveling and working. The dignitaries she rubbed shoulders with were quite impressive. A kind sweet nature who loved people. So enjoyed our chats and will miss them. She had some funny stories and we laughed and laughed. I know when it’s my turn I’d like to look her up and chat again.
We agree absolutely with her obituary, “A light has gone out with her passing.” Wish it weren’t so, sniff. We have our memories of wonderful visits to her various homes in Spokane, North Dakota, and Phoenix, and her visits to our home; and calls on the telephone. We wouldn’t have missed it for the world! Rest in Peace in your Heavenly Home, dear Doris, we love you. Irene and Chuck
We are so very sorry for you loss and pray that God’s promise of Eternity will bring you peace.
