Doris Mabel “Mabs” Layne March 23, 1925 – August 21, 2023 Mabs Layne, 98, born and raised in Fordland, Missouri, to Charles and Janie Williams. In 1945 she married the Love of her Life, Lloyd Layne. They were very happily married for 67 years. He preceded her in death in 2012. She is survived by son, Chuck (Barbara) Layne, grandchildren Conrad Layne and Becky (Royal) Short, great grandchildren Riah Short and Rusty Short. Also, numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and many, many dear friends. Mabs & Lloyd moved to Tucson, AZ in 1955 where they enjoyed “life in the desert”. Mabs worked as an executive secretary and office manager for Cella Barr Associates, Engineers. She was involved with the design and development of Skyline Country Club, Skyline Estates, Rio Rico, Empire Ranch, and other communities. She was active in Catalina United Methodist Church, community committees and held office in the Tucson chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha. After retirement, Lloyd and Mabs moved back to Springfield Missouri and became involved with Schweitzer United Methodist Church. They also enjoyed traveling nationally and internationally. In 2021, Mabs moved to Glendale Arizona to be near family. During her years at Inspira Arrowhead Assisted Living, Mabs was happy, active and developed many friendships. Her final resting place will be next to Lloyd in the Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri at a later date. The family wishes to express deep appreciation to all the staff and residents at Inspira Arrowhead for their loving friendship and care for Mabs. The family also expresses thanks to Suncrest Hospice for their professional and personal attention during her time of need. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Habitat for Humanity.
Service Information
Celebration of life gathering at Inspira Arrowhead Friday, August 25, 2023. Final resting place will be in the Veterans Cemetery at Springfield, Missouri in October at a date to be determined.
