Date of Birth: July 23, 1940
Date of Death: July 09, 2022
Dorothy “Dot” Louise (Klink) Brickhouse, 81 passed away in her home surrounded by her three daughters on July 9th , 2022. She put up a brief, yet fierce, battle with cancer; fighting until the very end, holding on to every moment she could with those who loved her. Born in Marshalltown, Iowa to parents Anna Margretha (Greta) and Frank Henry Klink on July 23, 1940. She was wholesomely raised in her small hometown of Gladbrook, Iowa, well known for the infamous Corn Carnival. In 1961, she successfully completed a three-year Diploma in Nursing (RN) at the Evangelical Hospital School of Nursing. She was a proud Veteran of the United States Air Force serving her county for three years as a 1st Lt stationed at Langley Air Force Base. After an honorable discharge from the military, she continued a long career of compassionate nursing care, working in numerous specialties. Her greatest and proudest accolade was being a Wife, Mother, and Grandmother to her family. She married Jimmie Cornelious Brickhouse on November 23, 1964, resulting in the creation of her beautiful family. She treasured the days of attending exciting swim meets, rousing softball tournaments, and thrilling basketball games. She was always the number one fan, committed to never missing any competitions, regardless of how far she needed to travel. Her grandchildren were her greatest pride and joy. All her friends heard endless stories of how proud she was of each one of them. She was present at the birth of each grandchild, often positioning herself to have the first embrace. Grannie/Grandma B was her favorite nickname, and she never missed an opportunity to play a game, go swimming, babysit, volunteer in a classroom, watch their team sports, go shopping, or celebrate achievements regardless if they lived near or far. Mom also had a way of building beautiful, longstanding friendships throughout her life; attending regular high school class reunions, gambling or playing Bunco with her Village Meadows friends, or having lunch with her fellow/past coworkers. She celebrated the people she loved and never missed the chance to make new friends. She is survived by her three children Dana Lynn James (Jon), Dr. Cynthia Rae Riley (Rick), and Melissa Lea Brickhouse-Thomas (Kelly); her grandchildren Quinton (Maggie), Makenzie (Joe), Marc, Joshua, Patrick (Alyssa), Collin, Sean and Keyleigh; along with her sister Margaret. She was welcomed into Heaven by those who preceded her in death: husband Jim; parents Greta/Frank; brother Paul; granddaughter Alexia Rae Riley; along with many beautiful friends and extended family. In remembrance of a life well lived, we ask that you honor Mom by never missing an opportunity to serve others, celebrate kindness and love unconditionally.

She was part of the class of 58 and graduated with my husband Dennis
I did not know she was so sick and feel terrible I did not get to the reunion due to so many other obligations during the Gladbrook corn carnival. Sure wish I would have rearranged my schedule. We did reunite at the Klink reunion in IL. She was a lovely, humble beautiful lady. So proud of her girls and family.
She will not be forgotten.
