EARL WINTERS BACHTELL

Our much loved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend, Earl Winters Bachtell, passed away peacefully at home on October 10, 2013, from causes incident to age.  Earl was born in Smithsburg, MD on December 4, 1925 to Edward and Juanita Bachtell.  Earl was the second son of 4 children.  Earl grew up in Maryland.  He joined the navy when he was just 17 and was on the destroyer, the USS Monson.  Earl came home from the war and went to college at the University of Maryland.  Earl married Thelma Ingram on January 29, 1947 and had 4 children.   On February 18, 1978, he married Mary Ann Halladay.  Earl was a microbiologist for the US Government, Department of Army.  He and the family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah in 1962.  He lived there for many years working at Fort Douglas and Dugway Proving Grounds.  He also lived and enjoyed retirement in California, New Mexico and  Arizona.  Earl is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Ann; his children; Earl Jr., deceased (Lou deceased),   Tom (Dana), John (Helen), and Debbie (Jim); his stepson, Kevin (Elllen deceased) and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.  His brother Ed (June), sister Betty (Buck) and sister-in-law AnnaLee (Don deceased).

Earl was an honest and generous man.  He was a deeply spiritual man and an excellent Bible teacher.  Earl was a member of Grace Bible Church and Spirit of Grace Lutheran Church.  Earl practiced and lived his faith daily.  He will be deeply missed; but we, as his family, know we will be reunited.  We celebrate his life and his profound influence on all of us and are very grateful for his life shared with us.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, October 17, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona.  A family gathering will be held following at Arizona Traditions.  In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Child Fund International or Hospice of Arizona.
