Elizabeth Leilani Torngren crossed over into eternal life on April 29, 2014, at the tender age of 20. Despite her brief time with us, she left a lasting legacy of laughter, art and whimsy. Elizabeth, Libby to her family, was a devotee of the arts and nurtured a passion for musical theater. A promising young writer, she studied English literature at Arizona State University.
Her creative gifts extended further than being a Thespian and wordsmith. She was quite at home in the kitchen, often flexing her Epicurean muscles while experimenting with healthful dishes for food-allergic family members. Cooking was only one way she extended her compassion for others. Libby often offered a sympathetic ear and comforting words for those needing consoling.
Libby was fond of the expression No Day But Today, a lyric from a song in her favorite musical, Rent. She was so fond, in fact, she had the words tattooed on her wrist. The sentiment was a philosophy she embraced whole-heartedly. She lived for now, always being present with those around her, always understanding that each moment was the best of her life.
She is survived by her mother and father, her brother, and her fiancé, Travis. She is deeply missed by the scores of friends and family who were fortunate enough to enjoy her brief, but brilliant, light. Donations may be made in her name to Phoenix Children’s Hospital or the arts organization of your liking.
A memorial service will be held at Best Funeral Services, 9380 W Peoria Ave, Peoria, AZ 85345, on Sunday, May 4, 2014, at 11 a.m. An on-site reception will follow at noon. If you’re able to join us, please celebrate her life by wearing bright colors.
