Gary was born in Spokane, Washington and moved to Phoenix, Arizona as a young boy. He graduated from Maryvale High School in 1968 and went on to serve in the United States Air Force for 11 years where he had the opportunity to travel around the world. Then, he worked for McDonnell Douglas as an avionics technician and a subcontractor for Boeing. He loved aircrafts, the F-15 and the Apache helicopter in particular, and had a strong passion for sports car racing. Whether he was the driver or the mechanic, he was just happy to be at the racetrack. He loved supporting his grandchildren in their passions for racing, softball, and horseback riding. Gary passed away on April 23, 2023 in Surprise, Arizona. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Patsy; his daughter Vicki; and his three grandchildren Richard, Amanda, and Kathryn; as well as his brother Patrick Whipps and sister Theresa Conner.
Service Information
A celebration of life will be held on June 9th, 2023 at 5:30pm at 24148 W. Jomax Rd., Wittmann, AZ 85361. Guests can wear red, white, and blue in honor of his love for our country.
