Date of Death: June 12, 2021
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Grady Matthew Garner, age 57, announces he passed away peacefully on June 12, 2021 with his wife, Lorna, by his side. In his final days, he was surrounded by loving family and friends. Grady battled with Alzheimer’s Disease for the last six years of his life. He had Polycystic Kidney Disease and had a successful kidney transplant thirteen years ago. Despite the illnesses, Grady faced them with bravery and acceptance. Through these trying times Grady never lost his witty sense of humor. Grady was a simple, hardworking man that did not take life for granted, and loyally loved his family and friends. He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, spending time with his family, friends and his dog Bella, playing golf, watching history documentaries and westerns, and going to the movies. He and Lorna were fortunate to enjoy many cruises together over the years. He always had a fascination with airplanes, and never missed an opportunity to watch the jets from Luke Airforce Base fly over. Grady was born in Eureka, CA and spent his early childhood in California before moving to Arizona. He attended Douglas High School where he played football, was an accomplished high jumper and formed life-long friendships. After graduating from Douglas High School, Grady attended NAU and then moved to Phoenix where he met Lorna. From that moment on, they built their 38-year life together in the valley, raising two sons, Jordan and Justin. He spent the majority of his work life working for the City of Glendale. Grady will be lovingly remembered by his wife of thirty years, Lorna and his children, Justin and Jordan (Devyn); grandson, Kason; sister, Hilary Garner Holdman (John); step-brother, Kevin Brown; uncle, Maury Ladrech (Nancy). Grady will also be forever remembered by extended family and dear friends. Grady was preceded in death by his father, John Garner; mother, Ann Jarvis; brothers, John Kelly Garner and Tracy Garner; aunt, Carol Ladrech. We are forever grateful to Grady’s doctors, caregivers and Hospice of the Valley for their diligent, loving care for Grady! Many of you became like family and our gratitude to each of you is boundless.
