James Alvin Heinrich
August 5, 1937 – October 12, 2013
James Alvin Heinrich of Sun City, Arizona passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at the age of 76. Jim was born on August 5, 1937 in Okeene, Oklahoma to Alvin Heinrich and Lucille Heinrich. At the age of 10, he was baptized into the Seventh-day Adventist Church by Pastor Lewis E. Lyman. He served as a private in the Army and was sent to Korea at the end of the Korean War.
Jim worked in construction for most of his life. He hung drywall, sprayed acoustic and texture, and built custom homes around Anchorage, Alaska and Lincoln, Nebraska. Later he became a funeral home director. He has lived in Oklahoma, Texas, Nebraska, California, Alaska and Arizona in addition to serving in Korea for 13 months while in the Army.
Jim loved spending time with family and friends. He could remember people’s birthdates, wedding dates, death dates, phone numbers & addresses like nobody else. He liked telling stories and jokes, as well as pulling a few pranks. He loved to help people, from helping people in car accidents to helping people fix things around the house. He enjoyed teaching the Sabbath School lessons at his church too.
He enjoyed baseball, basketball and football. Back in his prime he could hit a 90 – 100 mph fastball at the batting cages. He loved flying, and old Chevy cars or trucks like the El Camino. He enjoyed listening to Paul Harvey and Garrison Keillor, and watching the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, Lawrence Welk, Hee-Haw and Barnaby Jones. He loved listening to music by the Gaithers.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Bonnie Heinrich, his mother-in-law, Wilma Smith, who is almost 101 years old, of Peoria, AZ; his son Mike (Donna) Heinrich of Colorado Springs, CO; his son Barry (Annette) Heinrich of Valencia, CA; his son Brad (Shelly) Turner of Redlands, CA; and his son Brian (Shelly) Turner of Corona, CA. He was preceded in death by his father Alvin (1989), his mother Lucille (1995), his father-in-law Kenneth Smith (1980), and his oldest son, Dale Heinrich (1986).
He is survived by five siblings, Gary (Betty) Heinrich of Keene, TX; Carolyn (Larry) Howerton of Keene, TX; Lance Heinrich of Enid, OK; Beth (Ron) Chapman of Columbia, MO; and Jo (Gary) Buchanan of Claremore, OK. He was preceded in death by his sisters Janiece George (1985) & Sharon Bogue (2005).
He has 11 grandchildren who survive him, Bre, Crystal & Ashlee Heinrich, Brianne Jeske, Jennifer & Matthew Heinrich, Audrey & Jed Turner, Chris, Caitlyn & Cameron Turner. He also had many cousins, nephews, nieces and other family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
The Memorial Service will take place at the Peoria-Sun City Seventh-day Adventist Church located at 13450 N. Plaza Del Rio Blvd, Peoria, AZ 85381 on Sunday, October 20, 2013 at 2:00 pm. The Burial will take place on Monday, October 21, 2013 at 9:00 am at the Phoenix National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona located at 23029 N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, AZ 85024.
