On Thursday, July 22, 2021, James “Jim” Tucker, loving and devoted husband and father of two children, passed away peacefully surrounded by family in Phoenix, AZ at the age of 77. Jim was born on Wednesday, April 4, 1944 in Richmond Heights, MO to Charles and Elizabeth (Ham) Tucker. After high school, Jim was drafted into the Air Force where he gained invaluable experience with computers and the computer industry. Jim took this experience to college while serving in the military and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from the California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo on March 17, 1973. This degree led him to a myriad of positions in California, Idaho, Oregon and Arizona. Jim met, and later married, his high school sweetheart, Ladonna Kay McNabb on Friday, August 28, 1965. Jim and LaDonna were blessed with two children, Brian and Staci. For many years, Jim’s health had suffered due to complications related to heart disease, but in June, 2006 he received a miracle. On this fateful day, in Tucson, AZ Jim received a heart transplant that sustained his life for 15 additional years that enabled countless memories with his family, friends and beloved grandchildren. Jim was an active volunteer in multiple capacities. After his transplant, Jim and LaDonna loved being a part of multiple organ transplant organizations spending countless hours teaching the importance of organ donation. Jim also loved trains of any size, constructing model train sets from a simple circle around the Christmas tree to elaborate multi-layer, multi-train settings. He was known for his infectious, but quirky smile and his kind and compassionate spirit. Jim was preceded in death by his father, Charles and his mother, Elizabeth. He is survived by his wife LaDonna, his two children, Brian (Sherri) and Staci (Andrea), his brother Karl Tucker (Sue), his twin sisters Glinda Hutcherson (Steve) and Linda Cheeseman (George), his two grandchildren, Alyssa and Aaron and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Service Information

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at Best Funeral Services, 501 E Dunlap Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85020 at 9:00am followed by a short ceremony at the National Memorial Cemetery, 23029 N Cave Creek Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85024 at 10:30am. A reception will follow at 12:00pm. Details will be provided at the ceremony.
