John lived his life to the fullest, as a successful local artist, philanthropist, partner, brother, uncle, brother-in-law and friend to so many. He inspired many with his positivity, kindness, generosity, thoughtfulness, and transformed life into art. He told stories through his artwork, his crosses and Katrina's which inspired his artistic vision, passion, and love for his Mexican heritage. He began to participate in street fairs in 2007 and quickly was acknowledged for his incredible artistic expression and his array of Catrina figures that he would hand paint himself to give each one a colorful and spirited personality. He quickly received recognition from local artists and accolades from the Desert Botanical Garden Event Committee and Director. The Desert Botanical Garden invited John and his partner Felix, to participate not only as a vendor but to create and display the main altar for the Dia de los Muertos event. Through John's alter, he was able to share stories about his own family legacy and Mexico's rich, vibrant history. John will be dearly missed and will never be forgotten for his artistic contribution, zest for life and for his big and loving heart. Heaven just got more colorful and festive.
