Major John C. Driver III, USAF Retired, age 84, passed away peacefully at his Glendale home on the afternoon of Monday October 7, 2019 surrounded by his family. He was a dedicated family man, a devoted husband, loving father, and Papa. John was a committed Christian and loved to study the Word of God. He was an ordained Deacon in the First Southern Baptist Church of Glendale Sahuaro Ranch. John was preceded in death by his beloved wife Edna Mae Bennett, and his parents John C. Driver Jr. and Anna Adelia Partrich (Patrick). Born in Selma, AL in 1935, John grew up in Suttle, AL. After graduating from Suttle High School, he attended Auburn University and married his high school sweetheart, Edna Mae Bennett the following spring. While he was at Auburn, John was a member of the Agronomy Club, the Arnold Air Society, Scabbard and Blade and the ROTC. John was a proud patriot and served his country faithfully as an Air Force supply officer for over twenty years, including service during the Vietnam era. His military career took him all over the world with posts in: Cheyenne, WY, Springfield, IL, Bitburg, Germany, Topeka, KS, Tehran, Iran, Udon Thani, Thailand, and Alamogordo, NM before retiring at Luke AFB in Glendale, Arizona in 1982. He was a thoughtful man who had a variety of interests including reading, crossword puzzles, and genealogy. He was also handy and enjoyed gardening, building projects, bird hunting, fishing, particularly fly-fishing, camping, and watching Auburn Football. John was the definition of a patriarch and will be dearly missed. John is survived by his four children: Sharon Ann Driver Mathers (Frank), John Cecil Driver IV (Lisa), Russell Alan Driver (Paula), and Jerry Wayne Driver (Kim), nine grandchildren: Amy Driver, Deanna Driver, Ben Mathers, Nicole Demartino (Michael), Tara McDermott (Luke), Lauren Villegas (Daniel), Cassidi Carrillo (Sam), Jack Driver, Derek Driver, and six great grandchildren: Jeni Esquivel, Hailey Demartino, Aiden Esquivel, Paisley Demartino, Santana Carrillo, and Eleanor McDermott.
A Celebration of Life services will be held at First Southern Baptist Church of Glendale Sahuaro Ranch, 10250 North 59th Avenue, Glendale, AZ 85302 on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at 11:00 AM.
