John Edward Brand III was born in Phoenix to John Brand Jr. and Lillian Brand (Hedgecock). John grew up with a love for Arizona and the outdoors. He grew up attending Christ Church Lutheran with his family. After graduating Camelback High School in 1973, John pursued a career in computer operations and thrived in the Dial Corporation, formerly known as Greyhound Dial Corporation. It was there that he served as Lead Operator and Supervisor. In June 1983, John married Kathleen ("Kathy") Legutko. Two years later they welcomed daughter Emily (Quezada) and in 1990, son John (“Jack”) Edward Brand IV. John was the proud grandfather of Lincoln (7), Alayna (6), Sano (5), and Landen (2). His passions included ice hockey, animals, target shooting and dove hunting, and his ultimate joy was playing jazz bass guitar. The second eldest of four siblings, he is survived by older sister Barbara & brother-in-law Paul (Barnum), brother Jeff & sister-in-law Vicki, younger sister Beth, former wife Kathy, daughter Emily & son-in-law Josh (Quezada), son Jack & daughter-in-law Brittany, his grandchildren, many more loving nieces, nephews and friends, and his ever-faithful animal companion, Ruger the German Shepherd.

Emily, and your whole family,
We are sending you all prayers during your time of grieving. John Brand sounds like a fine man. Knowing Emily, it is obvious that he was a good father – because Emily is such an amazing person. Being a loving partner, parent, sibling, friend – all the many roles we fill on this earth is one of the marks of a life well-lived. We are all diminished when such people leave this world.
All our best,
Amy, Kelly, and Ro
Thank you for doing the memorial. It’s an opportunity to say Thank You to John for giving us his wonderful family.
Rest In Peace our true faithful friend. May God’s love be with you and your family in this difficult time.
