Lois Irene Chapman, the daughter of the late Pearl Gladys and Rev. Adam Berry, was born August 12, 1944, in Long Branch, NJ. She was the youngest of 13 children. She was a lifetime member of St. Thomas AME Zion Church and a former member of their Jr. and Sr. Choirs. Lois graduated from Red Bank Regional HS in 1962. She went on to work for Steinbach's where she was a warehouse worker. In 1986, she returned to school and earned her diploma as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Monmouth County Vocational School. She graduated in January 1987 and started her new career at Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune, NJ. Lois was very dedicated to her work as an oncology nurse for over 19 years, retiring in 2006. Lois was very creative and caring. She will be greatly missed by an array of family and friends, including those from the community she adopted in her heart. She was predeceased by her brothers; Adam Berry, Marvin Berry, William Berry, Edwin Berry, Ronald Berry, and John Berry, her sisters; Adeline Evans, Madeline Mangin, Josephine Bright, and Margaret Taylor. She is survived by her daughters Susan Newsome (Maurice), and Marian Moultrie; grandchildren; Shannon, Uquala, Uvhonna, Lamar, De'Andreas, Jae'Saun and Krystian; great-grandchildren; Marquis, Myah, Adrien, and Zaedyn; her sister, Ruth Holloway, brother, Benjamin Berry, a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; and close friend Joseph (Jimmy) Watson. Lois's warm, kindhearted nature endeared her to so many.

Service Information

A private viewing will be held for the family on June 17, 2019 from 11:00 am-11:45 am; at Best Funeral Services in Peoria, AZ. A celebration of life ceremony will be held in August of 2019 in New Jersey. Details to be announced at a later time by the family.
