Wallace Hegg, son of Olavus and Luella, was born March 23, 1935 in Northwood, North Dakota. He married Maxine Bilden of Northwood on July 17, 1955, graduated from North Dakota State University with a BS in Industrial Engineering in 1957, was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and entered active duty with the US Air Force January 1958. He was assigned to the 11th Fighter Interceptor Squadron at Duluth, Minnesota as an interceptor pilot until his release from active duty in 1963. He returned to Fargo, North Dakota and joined the North Dakota Air National Guard. In 1977 he attended the National War College, in residence, in Washington, D.C. and in 1983 assumed command of the North Dakota ANG 119th Fighter Interceptor Group “Happy Hooligans.” He accepted the position as ANG Assistant to the Commander, Air Force Materiel Command in 1992. He was promoted to and federally recognized as a Major General. He retired in 1995 with more than 7500 flying hours as a command pilot, having flown 11 different aircraft.
Wally and Maxine have 3 children, Jennifer (David) Zimmerman of Boise, ID, Mitchell (Susan) Hegg of Great Falls, MT, Sandra (Stephen) Thornburgh of Nampa, ID and 4 grandchildren, Rebekah, Rachel, Caleb and Kyle Hegg of Great Falls.
After 38 1/2 years in a career he loved, Wally and Maxine have enjoyed time spent between their homes in Vergas, MN and Sun City West, AZ. There has been no lack of fishing, golfing, hunting, traveling and time with family and friends.
He is survived by brothers Curt Hegg of Atlanta, Georgia; Myron (Hazel) Hegg of Northwood, North Dakota; and sister Ione (Robert) Mutchler of Fargo, North Dakota; wife, children, grandchildren and many wonderful friends.
