Mary Alice Gibbs, 86 years old, died on Saturday, January 18, 2014, at Banner Boswell Hospital in Sun City, Arizona following a prolonged illness. Her life began in 1927 as the youngest of three children in Chicago, Illinois, where she lived much of her life. She graduated high school at Loretto Academy in Chicago. Mary worked in the field of data processing and was employed by R.H. Donnelly of Oak Brook, Illinois for 15 years and also the City of Houston, TX, from where she retired in 1991. Mary was a pioneer socially, politically and professionally and was an long-time advocate of equal rights for women. She was an animal lover, loved great television, jazz music and she was an exceptional seamstress who had a great sense of style.
Mary leaves four daughters: Gail Gibbs, Phoenix AZ; Sharon Bennett, Gary IN; Lauren Gibbs, Houston,TX; and Denise (Wyatt) Smith, Crete, IL. She leaves six grandchildren: Tyra Robinson-Walker, Sam Bennett III, Tyrone Robinson, Aarrion Regans, Loren Murphy, and Garrett Smith. She also leaves ten great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
