Mary was born in Hawthorne, California to parents Mary Leona Shannep and William Estes Shannep. Mary was sister to William Lexis Shannep. Wife to David Young. Mother to Alex Young and Janette Jahoda of Phoenix, AZ. Mother-in-Law to Steve Jahoda and Rene Brandenburg. Mary was grandmother to Alex Jahoda, Zach Jahoda, Alissa Young, David Johnson, Leah Johnson and Oliver Johnson. Mary loved her extended family and friends with all her heart. Mary's Parents worked and lived in California and Denver as ranch/farm hands. After Mary's father died when she was 6, they moved to Denver to be close to family. Mary's mom, remarried and they moved to Phoenix in June 1957, when she was in eight grade, her step-dad Roy, opened a Barber Shop. They bought a house in the Campo Bello area on the Northwest Corner of 31st Avenue and Angela Drive. Roy's Barber Shop was at 3120 E Bell Road, between a Old West Tavern/Bar and Harry Thurston's Saddle Shop. She attended the brand new Paradise Valley High School, attended "sock hops", rode horses, and wrote poetry. She Got Married at 16 to her high school sweetheart, David Young. David and Mary began their family and moved to California. David was a mechanic and stock race car driver, and Mary was a housewife. Mary returned 5 years later to Phoenix, raised her children and had many careers (waitress, lathe operator, machinist, bus driver, Avon and more). Later in life she went back to school and graduated with a degree in Computer Science at the age of 53. She worked part-time designing websites. She enjoyed knitting, poetry, desert flora and fauna, nature, gardening, crafts and her grandchildren.
