On Sunday, November 27, 2022, Mary Lou Haring, daughter of Everett and Irene (Ludders) Dowd, age 91, mother of ten, passed in her sleep as a result of heart disease at her residence in LifeStream Senior Living, Youngtown, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Damon Haring, Sr., in 2005 and their first born infant son, Clayton Dean Haring, in 1950. Nine surviving children include Donald Lee Haring, Norma Jean Haring Patterson, Emma Jane Haring, Clifford David Haring, Jr., Paul Duane Haring, Margaret Louise Leatherbury, Mary Sue Spurgeon, Martha Jo Greystone and Marcia Lynn Haring. She has many grandchildren and great grandchildren. As the oldest daughter of eight children, she is survived by three sisters: Shirley Schultz, Sun City, Arizona, Virginia Sellers, Surprise, Arizona, and Doris Heise, Sun City, Arizona. Everyone who knew Mary Lou heard about her life being raised on a farm in Culver, Indiana, and her 55 years of marriage to a farmer and U.S. Steel worker located in Wheatfield, Indiana. She was best known for her homemaking and farming skills. Mary Lou grew an extensive garden of fresh vegetables and preserved them. She milked the Guernsey cattle by hand and churned her very own butter that everyone loved at church potlucks. Mary Lou helped feed the Angus beef cattle. She taught the children to hoe weeds in the cornfields as well as bale hay, pump water for the cattle, and keep farm records, etc. When her children began school, she started a piggy bank for each of them to save money for college. Enjoying social gatherings, Mary Lou hosted Jasper County Home Extension Club at her home on the farm, was a room mother for her children’s classes, PTA mom, Girl Scout leader, and supported 4-H. Later, she joined the Eastern Star and eventually became a state officer in Indiana. Mary Lou was a member of the Gifford, Indiana Rebekah Lodge as well as active with the Wheatfield Baptist Church Sunday School where her children attended. Occasionally, she cross-stitched, played the piano and accordion, and Cliff and she attended Purdue games.

Service Information

Visitation will be held at Best Funeral Services, West Valley Chapel, 9380 W. Peoria Avenue, Peoria, AZ on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 from 9am-11am and graveside service will be held at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona located at 23029 North Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, Arizona at 1:30 pm. In lieu of giving flowers, the family asks that donations be given to Lakeview United Methodist Church located at 10298 West Thunderbird Blvd, Sun City, Arizona 85351.
