Bertron,Mary R.
Mary R. Bertron died peacefully on October 1, 2011 surrounded by family. She was born in Winslow, Arizona, on August 10, 1927 to Jesus and Modesta Baca. As a young woman Mary had aspirations of becoming a singer/actress; she sang professionally and had offers from a recording studio to move to Hollywood; after serious consideration and family input, she decided not to pursue her entertainment career. Her varied work history included: working for TWA and Santa Fe Railroad during WWII; handing out parking tickets for the Winslow police department as a meter maid. She later married and moved to California with her beloved husband Daniel G. Bertron who precedes her in death. They moved to the Valley in 1992. She is survived by her daughter, Yvonne Sandoz (Ken); Sister, Helen Baca-White-Glisch; Nieces, Lita Tope (Jim) and Margie Petricek (Rod); Grandchildren, Richard, Gena, Mickael, Chris, Greg and Patricia; 10 great grandchildren; 14 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Mary’s greatest joy was her family, and whether it was a holiday celebration, making tamales for Christmas Eve, leading and singing family traditional Christmas songs with her sister, dancing the cumbia, or an intimate gathering she treasured each moment. The family would like to give a special thank you to Hospice of the Valley for their love, compassion and quality care. Visitation will be held at Best Funeral Services, Inc. West Valley Chapel, located at 501 E Dunlap Avenue on Friday, October 7th, 2011 beginning at 6:00 pm and Rosary will follow at 7:00 pm.
