Date of Birth: October 13, 1945
Date of Death: June 20, 2022
The family of Paul R. Ziegler Jr wish to share word of his passing on June 20, 2022 at the age of 76 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. Paul’s love for life and his humorous wit will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is preceded in death by his loving wife Cheryl and will be lovingly remembered by his children Kathie (Jeff), Mark, and Alexandra (Garrett), his sister Ellen (Richard), nephews Sam (Denise), Sean (Dara), and Chris (Margaret). He was Poppy to Colin and grandfather to Nicholas (Amy), Tanya (Aaron), and Renee (Miles). He was also blessed with two great grandchildren Rylee and Taryn. Paul was born in Baltimore to parents Dr. Paul and Margaret Ziegler (deceased) and enjoyed an active childhood with his sister Ellen. There are many stories of trips to the Eastern Shore of Maryland, boating and enjoying the outdoors. Paul enjoyed fast cars, classic rock music and spending time with friends and family. He was a graduate of Howard High School and obtained his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Baltimore in Maryland. Paul and Cheryl met in Maryland and moved to Chicago shortly after they were married. They enjoyed all that Chicago had to offer, even living in a high rise on the Lakefront. They moved to Des Plaines when their youngest daughter was born and enjoyed life there until Cheryl’s untimely passing in 2018 due to lung cancer. Paul had the opportunity to move to Arizona to be closer to his older children Kathie and Mark in 2020. He was cared for during the progression of his disease by wonderful, caring physicians who understood the relentless nature of Parkinson’s disease. Kathie and Mark along with help from Ellen and Richard were there to support him throughout his final journey and provide him with the best quality of life. Paul fought the symptoms of Parkinson’s valiantly and refused to allow the disease the ability to define his life.

Ellen, So very sorry for your loss. Paul was my secret crush when we all first moved onto Chestnut Hill Drive.
He was raised to be a great person as was demonstrated by the way he loved his friends and family. May God bless all of you and give you the strength to get through this time. RIP Paul.
