Wayne R. Connelly, age 76, of Glendale, AZ formerly of Elysian, MN passed away on Wednesday, December 26, 2018. A private visitation will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, December 31, 2018 at Best Funeral Services in Peoria, AZ. Details for a memorial service in Minnesota are pending at this time. Wayne Connelly was born on June 27, 1942, to James and Violet (Hanson) Connelly at home in Salem Township. Wayne grew up in the Dodge Center area and graduated from Dodge Center High School in 1960. Wayne married Inez Schroeder on January 12 ,1963 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Owatonna, MN. Together they had five children and later divorced. Wayne had a long career at E.F. Johnson’s and Waseca Properties in Waseca, MN. He also drove school bus in Owatonna for many years and was beloved by the students. Driving school bus also afforded Wayne the opportunity to see his son participate in many school sports which he loved. Wayne enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. In the summers, he loved hosting family out at the lake trailer near Elysian, MN spending time going for golf cart rides with the family around the resort and telling stories by the campfire. He enjoyed the outdoors especially in his favorite swing out at the lake. He spent his free time woodworking, having refinished many family heirloom furniture pieces. He enjoyed fishing whether it was fishing off the dock with his grandkids, or out in the boat with his friends. He also enjoyed gardening planting tomatoes wherever he was staying and playing cards. Wayne is survived by his five children, Julie (Allen) Klemmensen of West Concord, Dean Connelly of Owatonna, James (Sara) Connelly of Northfield, Diane Connelly of Rochester, and Daniel Connelly of Owatonna; five grandchildren, Amanda (Jeremyas) Schultz, Erin Klemmensen, Brendan Aug, Morgan Aug, and James Connelly; three great-grandchildren, Carter Peterson, Mackenzie and Makenna Schultz; sisters, Evelyn Kabbage, Jeanette Grinager, and Jane Tyler; brothers, John (Barb) Connelly, Richard (Charlotte) Connelly; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Wayne was proceeded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Sara Connelly-Jones. Memorials can be made to Mayo Clinic for Cancer Research or Mayo Clinic’s Poverello Foundation.
